Deeside (Connah's Quay, Shotton, Queensferry)

Bathroom fitting across Deeside, from the bottom road to Wepre

Deeside, the run of towns along the Dee estuary from Queensferry through Shotton to Connah's Quay, is about 31 minutes from our base in Wrexham. Connah's Quay is Flintshire's largest town, and its housing is mostly post-war and 1990s estates uphill at Golftyn and Wepre, with the older dock and railway terraces along the High Street, Dock Road and the A548 bottom road. We fit bathrooms in all of it: full renovations, new bathrooms, walk-in showers, wet rooms, ensuites, downstairs toilets, tiling, wall panels, plumbing and repairs, plus landlord work for the lets around Coleg Cambria and the industrial park. Deeside is on Dwr Cymru Welsh Water and we measure pressure and flow at the survey. Free survey, itemised written quote, and the electrics that need certifying are done by a registered electrician we work with, and you get the certificate.

A town that grew from a few hundred to twenty thousand

Connah's Quay went from a few hundred people to nearly 20,000 in about fifty years, and the housing shows it. Golftyn and Wepre were hamlets until the 1970s absorbed them into estate after estate of semi-detached family homes, with more large developments through the 1990s. Those houses have the standard upstairs bathroom with a bath under the window, a separate toilet in the older ones, plasterboard walls and timber floors, and they are the bread and butter of our Deeside work: bath-to-shower conversions, ensuites built into the main bedroom, and the two small rooms made into one. Down on the bottom road and around the High Street and Dock Road the terraces date from the nineteenth-century dock and railway era, with solid walls and bathrooms added in back extensions, and the former shops converted to houses have bathrooms in unlikely places. Shotton and Queensferry, continuous with the Quay, have the same two kinds of house, and Kelsterton at the western end is home to Coleg Cambria.

Welsh Water, estuary flooding and the uphill estates

Nearly all of CH5 is on Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, for which no hardness figure is published that we can quote, while a small Hafren Dyfrdwy pocket on the Saltney side is slightly hard at 101 milligrams per litre. We measure pressure and flow at the survey rather than assume; the uphill estates at Wepre and Golftyn sit a long way above the bottom road, and pressure differs accordingly. One other local fact worth knowing if you own on the estuary side: tidal flooding from the Dee is the dominant flood risk along the Flint and Hawarden embankments, and on a ground-floor bathroom near the water we talk about non-return valves on the waste.

Flintshire building control

Deeside is in Flintshire, whose in-house building control wants full plans or a building notice at least two working days before any notifiable work: new drainage connections and structural changes on a bathroom job. The Part P electrics are self-certified by our registered electrician. Connah's Quay has no conservation area (Ewloe Castle in Wepre Park is a scheduled monument, not a housing constraint), so extractor vents go where the duct run is shortest.

Seeing bathrooms on Deeside

Connah's Quay has an independent bathroom showroom on the High Street with a Utopia display, and The Plumbline's Chester branch supplies the area with plumbing and bathrooms. Chester's Sealand Road showrooms are about fifteen minutes over the Flintshire Bridge or the A494, and Wrexham's half an hour. We can source through the merchant, bring samples to the house, or fit what you have bought; the quote prices every item either way.

Example scenario: a 1990s semi at Wepre

A three-bedroom semi with a 2 by 1.8 metre family bathroom and a main bedroom big enough to give up 1.2 by 2 metres. We build a stud wall and a sliding door, run a new soil connection to the stack on the gable, and fit an ensuite with a 900 by 900 walk-in corner, a wall-hung basin and a short-projection toilet, panels throughout and a humidity fan ducted through the eaves. In the family bathroom the bath stays, with a new screen, taps and tiles. Eight working days for both rooms.

Night-time leaks in Connah's Quay, Shotton and Queensferry

WhatsApp or call any time if water is escaping in a Deeside bathroom; Connah's Quay, Shotton and Queensferry are about 31 minutes from Wrexham, inside our emergency area. Landlords with lets near Coleg Cambria can give tenants our number for out-of-hours leaks, and the cost is agreed with the landlord before work starts. A leak in the road or before the outside stop tap is Dwr Cymru Welsh Water's to fix.

Questions

Bathroom questions from Deeside

Which parts of Deeside do you cover?

Connah's Quay, Shotton, Queensferry, Garden City, Sandycroft, Mancot, Hawarden, Ewloe, Aston, Kelsterton and Pentre. Deeside is about 31 minutes from our Wrexham base.

Is the water in Connah's Quay hard?

Deeside is on Dwr Cymru Welsh Water and no published figure exists for its zone, so we do not state one; a small Hafren Dyfrdwy pocket on the Saltney side is slightly hard at 101. We measure pressure and flow at the survey.

Can you add an ensuite to a 1990s estate house at Golftyn or Wepre?

Usually yes, if the bedroom can give up about 1.2 by 2 metres and the soil stack is reachable. Those houses have timber floors and plasterboard walls, which makes the stud wall and drainage straightforward. We check the stack route at the survey before you commit.

Do you do bathrooms for landlords on Deeside?

Yes, including HMOs for students at Coleg Cambria and workers at Deeside Industrial Park. Hard-wearing finishes, agreed hours, photos on completion and invoices in the agent's format.

Do I need to tell Flintshire council before a bathroom job in Deeside?

Two working days before notifiable work starts, which on a bathroom means new drainage or structural changes; we tell you if your job has either. The electrics are certified by our registered electrician.
