Bathroom fitting in Stockport, from the Heatons to Marple

We fit and renovate bathrooms across Stockport: the large Victorian houses of Heaton Moor, the terraces around Alexandra Park in Edgeley, the Edwardian streets and later estates of Bramhall, Cheadle's old village and post-war estate, Marple's mill-village terraces, Offerton, and the new apartments going up in the town centre. Full renovations, new bathrooms supply and fit or fit only, walk-in showers and wet rooms, ensuites, downstairs toilets, tiling, wall panels, plumbing and repairs, each with a free survey and an itemised written quote. Stockport is a town we cover regularly, and it has some of the softest water we work with: about 28 milligrams per litre in the Heatons and Edgeley, so limescale barely figures and the decisions are about the house itself. The electrics that need certifying are done by a registered electrician we work with, and you get the certificate.

Victorian villas, Edwardian semis and mill cottages

Heaton Moor was built between the 1850s and the 1890s after Heaton Chapel station opened: big houses on tree-lined roads, set back behind stone gateposts, now a conservation area. Their bathrooms are often a former bedroom, with high ceilings, lath and plaster walls that come away with the old tiles, and room for a freestanding bath and a separate shower. Edgeley's Victorian terraces around Alexandra Park, another conservation area, are the opposite: a compact bathroom at the back where the layout is fixed by the soil stack.

Bramhall has a lot of Edwardian and some Victorian houses near the village and along the roads to Bramhall Park and Cheadle Hulme, pockets of 1930s to 1950s houses, and the 1960s and 1970s estates at Parkside and New House Farm, where a dated family bathroom is the usual starting point. Cheadle has a nineteenth-century village centre and a post-war Manchester overspill estate. Marple grew as Samuel Oldknow's mill village from 1790, with terraces built for mill workers, before becoming a commuter suburb. Offerton is mostly later twentieth-century housing, including the Offerton Park estate.

Very soft water, and pressure to check

United Utilities supplies Stockport, and most of the borough has soft water. The zone serving Heaton Moor, Heaton Mersey, Edgeley and the town centre averages about 28 milligrams per litre; Cheadle and most of Bramhall about 49; south Bramhall, Offerton, Hazel Grove, Marple and Romiley between about 65 and 70. Glass and chrome stay clear with a wipe, rainfall heads do not block, and a softener would be money wasted. The thing to measure is water pressure and flow, particularly in a large Heaton Moor house with a long pipe run to a second-floor bathroom, and we test both at the survey before recommending a shower.

Stockport building control, conservation areas and the town centre

Stockport Council runs its own building control service. On a bathroom job it needs to know about new drainage and structural work; the electrics are self-certified by our electrician. The borough has 37 conservation areas, including Heaton Moor, Heaton Mersey, Alexandra Park in Edgeley, Cheadle Village, Bramall Park and Marple Bridge, and in those we keep new vents off the street elevation.

The town centre is changing fast. The council's development corporation has around 1,200 homes complete or on site, including 253 apartments in the restored Weir Mill, and in 2025 the target was raised to 8,000 new town-centre homes over fifteen years. As those apartments age, their bathrooms will need the same kind of refit we do in city-centre flats elsewhere: same layout, better tray, better fan, working hours agreed with the building.

Showrooms in and around Stockport

Easy Bathrooms has a showroom on Wellington Road South and another on Duke Avenue in Cheadle, and Clifton Trade Bathrooms has a depot on the Whitehill Industrial Estate that is open to the public. If you have chosen from one of them, send us the list before we quote and we will check it against your pressure and pipework.

Example scenario: a Heaton Moor villa with a bedroom-sized bathroom

A Victorian house on a tree-lined road, the bathroom a former bedroom of 3 by 2.6 metres with a 3.2 metre ceiling and lath and plaster walls. Everything comes back to the brick; the walls are boarded, a freestanding bath goes under the window, a 1200 walk-in shower with a fixed panel takes one corner, a double vanity the other wall, porcelain on the floor and the fan ducted to the rear. Eight working days.

Stockport emergencies

For a same-night emergency in Heaton Moor, Edgeley or Bramhall, a Stockport plumber will reach you long before we could from Wrexham. When the leak is stopped, we take on the proper repair, or the refit if the bathroom took the damage, as a booked job.

Questions

Bathroom questions from Stockport

Is the water soft in Stockport?

Yes, very soft in much of the borough. United Utilities' figures put the Heatons, Edgeley and the town centre at about 28 milligrams per litre and Cheadle and most of Bramhall at about 49. Limescale is barely an issue, so a softener is not needed.

Can you fit a freestanding bath in a Heaton Moor house?

Usually, yes. Many Heaton Moor bathrooms are former bedrooms with room for one. We check the floor joists, the route for the waste and the hot water supply at the survey, because a large bath needs all three to be right.

Can you combine a bathroom and separate toilet in a Bramhall house?

Often, yes. Where a Parkside or New House Farm house has a separate toilet beside the bathroom, we check at the survey whether the dividing wall is a partition and where the soil stack runs, then price the knock-through as its own line on the quote.

Do you work in Stockport town centre apartments?

Yes. We agree working hours and lift use with the building, protect the shared areas and plan around the shared stack. Most apartment bathrooms are refitted in the same layout in about a week.

Do you fit suites from the Stockport and Cheadle showrooms?

Yes. Easy Bathrooms on Wellington Road South and in Cheadle, and Clifton Trade Bathrooms on the Whitehill Industrial Estate, all sell suites we fit. Send us your order list before we quote so nothing is missing on the day.
