Prestatyn

Bathroom fitters for Prestatyn, Meliden and the LL19 bungalows

Prestatyn is a town of bungalows and downsizers, and its bathrooms reflect that: a lot of our work in LL19 is turning a 1970s or 1980s bungalow bathroom into a room that will work for the next twenty years, with a level-access shower, a seat, rails that do not look clinical and heating that actually warms the room. We also fit family bathrooms on the estates north of the centre, ensuites, downstairs toilets and wet rooms, and we handle tiling, wall panels, plumbing, fans, lighting and repairs, with a registered electrician for the certified work. Dee Valley Bathrooms covers Prestatyn, Meliden, Gronant, Dyserth and Talacre regularly from Wrexham, with the survey free and the quote itemised and in writing.

Bungalows, retirement flats and the Roman bathhouse estate

Prestatyn grew from a fishing village of under a thousand people into a resort with the railway, and then into the retirement town it is now. The most sought-after streets are the seafront, Ffordd Penrhwylfa and Meliden, and a great deal of the stock is bungalows: clusters along the seafront, in Upper Prestatyn and around Calthorpe Drive, bought by people who want level living and the sea air. On Sandy Lane the McCarthy Stone apartments at Lido Grange are restricted to the over-60s. North of the centre, a housing estate was built in 1984 around the preserved Roman bathhouse, and that is where most of the ordinary family bathrooms we fit are.

What this means in practice: a bungalow bathroom usually has a solid floor and a short run to the drains, which makes a wet room or a level-access tray straightforward; a retirement apartment has a shared stack and a management company to keep informed; and a 1980s estate house has a small square bathroom where a walk-in shower in place of the bath makes the room.

Bathrooms for staying put

The reason people move to Prestatyn is the reason they want to stay in their house when stairs and steps get harder. A bathroom designed for that does not have to look like a hospital. A tiled level-access shower with a linear drain, a fold-down seat in a timber or stone finish, rails fixed into reinforced backing so they can take a full weight, a thermostatic shower with a safe maximum, a comfort-height toilet and a basin reachable from a chair: fitted in warm colours with good lighting, it is simply a good bathroom that happens to be easy to use. We fit these across the town and will say plainly when a walk-in bath is the better answer for the person using it.

Welsh Water, pressure and the council

Prestatyn is on Dwr Cymru Welsh Water. We do not have a verified hardness figure for the LL19 zone, so we do not quote one; what we measure at the survey is the pressure and flow, which in a bungalow on a long run from the main can be modest and decides between a mixer, a pumped shower or an electric unit. Denbighshire County Council handles building regulations: new drainage, structural changes and bathroom electrics are the notifiable items, and the electrics that need certifying are done by a registered electrician we work with, and you get the certificate.

Choosing a bathroom near Prestatyn

There is no bathroom showroom in Prestatyn itself. The nearest displays are about four miles away in Rhyl: Topps Tiles on Vale Road, the B and Q bathroom displays at Clwyd Retail Park and the Jewson bathroom showroom on Cefndy Road. Most of our Prestatyn customers prefer the other route, which is that we bring tile and panel samples and brassware to the house, draw the layout on the spot and price every item on the quote.

What we do in Prestatyn

  • Level-access showers and wet rooms in bungalows and apartments
  • Full bathroom renovations in family houses, four to five working days on average
  • Bath-to-shower conversions with a fixed glass panel
  • Ensuites and downstairs toilets
  • Refits in retirement apartments, agreed with the management company
  • Tiling, wall panels, plumbing, heated towel rails, fans and lighting (electrician certified)
  • Repairs, resealing and regrouting

Example scenario: an Upper Prestatyn bungalow

A 1970s bungalow with a 2 by 2.2 metre bathroom, a bath the owners stopped using and a radiator that never warmed the room. We form a level tiled shower across the window end with a linear drain, fit a fold-down seat and two rails into timber pattresses, a thermostatic shower with a riser rail set for seated use, a comfort-height toilet, a wall-hung vanity, slip-resistant porcelain on the floor, a towel rail sized for the room and a humidity fan. Seven working days because of the tanking cure time.

Emergencies in Prestatyn

For a same-night leak in Prestatyn, Meliden or Gronant, a plumber close by will reach you sooner than we can from Wrexham. We then repair the bathroom properly or, if it was due a change anyway, turn the repair into the level-access room many Prestatyn customers ask us for.

Questions

Bathroom questions from Prestatyn

Can you make a Prestatyn bungalow bathroom safer without it looking clinical?

Yes. A level tiled shower, a seat in a timber or stone finish, rails on reinforced fixings, a thermostatic valve with a safe maximum, a comfort-height toilet and warm lighting. It reads as a modern bathroom; the safety is in the details, not the look.

Do you work in the retirement apartments on Sandy Lane and similar blocks?

Yes. We agree hours and access with the management company, plan around the shared soil stack, and keep the toilet out of use for the shortest stretch possible. Noise is kept to agreed times.

Is there a bathroom showroom in Prestatyn?

Not one we can point you to in the town. The nearest displays are in Rhyl, about four miles away, at Topps Tiles, B and Q and Jewson. We also bring samples to the house and price each item on the quote.

What is the water like in Prestatyn for a new shower?

The supplier is Dwr Cymru Welsh Water. We have not verified a hardness figure for LL19, so we do not quote one; the thing that decides your shower is pressure and flow, which we measure at the survey, and which can be modest at the end of a long run to a bungalow.

Do you need permission from Denbighshire council for a bathroom refit?

Not for a like-for-like refit. New drainage connections, structural changes and bathroom electrics are notifiable; the electrics are certified by our registered electrician and we tell you before the start whether anything else needs a building notice.

Which places around Prestatyn do you cover?

All of LL19 including Meliden, Gronant, Dyserth and Talacre, and along the coast to Rhyl and Rhuddlan, which have their own pages.
