High Street houses, village homes and barns
The High Street is the picture of Tarporley: Georgian brick frontages, several listed, running the length of the village inside the conservation area, with the Swan Hotel at its centre. Behind those frontages the houses are deep and old, and their bathrooms were fitted wherever a Victorian or an Edwardian owner could find room. The work there is thick-wall work: finding waste routes, boarding walls flat, levelling floors that have settled, and keeping any external change off the street elevation. Beyond the centre the village is twentieth-century family houses with regular bathrooms, and out towards Rhuddall Heath and the A51 there are farmhouses and barn conversions where the bathroom is often the biggest room in the house and the water comes a long way from the main.
Tarporley is also planning for growth. The Neighbourhood Plan review is testing sites for an indicative 631 new homes to 2045, with a design code to protect the village's character, and there are new homes going up nearby at Calveley. Those developer bathrooms will be the refits of the 2030s.
Soft water and long rural mains
Tarporley shares United Utilities' Malpas and Mouldsworth zone with the villages to the south, and the water is soft at an average of 15 milligrams per litre of calcium carbonate. Limescale is not a consideration when you choose a shower, glass or taps here, and electric shower elements last. The thing that does need checking in a rural village is pressure and flow: a barn or farmhouse at the end of a long private supply pipe can have far less than a house on the High Street, and we measure it at the survey before recommending anything, because a rainfall head on a slow supply is a disappointment every morning.
Conservation area and Cheshire West building control
Tarporley has its own conservation area, and the separate Burton conservation area sits within the parish too, both on Cheshire West and Chester Council's list. For a listed High Street house we check with the council before any external vent or pipe goes on a frontage; inside the house a bathroom refit is usually straightforward with the right preparation. Building regulations are the council's: new drainage, structural changes and bathroom electrics are notifiable, the electrics that need certifying are done by a registered electrician we work with, and you get the certificate. The village sits at low flood risk, which is one worry fewer for a ground-floor bathroom.
Seeing bathrooms near Tarporley
There is no bathroom showroom in the village itself, but there is a good one close by: Bathrooms and Tiles by Pebbles at Calveley on the A51, a large independent bathroom and tile showroom a few minutes down the road. We fit what you choose there, check the shower suits your pressure before we quote, and bring samples and brochures to the house if you would rather decide at home.

Example scenario: a barn conversion near Rhuddall Heath
A converted barn with a 3 by 2.8 metre bathroom, a freestanding bath the owners want to keep, a shower that dribbles because the supply pipe runs 200 metres from the lane, and a floor that is 15 millimetres out of level. We fit a shower pump on the cylinder, build a 1600 by 900 tiled wet area with a linear drain and a single glass panel, level the floor, lay large-format porcelain throughout, hang a double vanity, add a towel rail, and vent the fan through the roof. Eight working days.
Leaks out of hours in Tarporley, Kelsall and Tarvin
Tarporley is about 33 minutes from Wrexham along the A51, close enough for us to come out to a bathroom emergency in the village, Kelsall or Tarvin at any time: send a WhatsApp or ring. United Utilities handles leaks in the road and on its side of the outside stop tap; from the boundary inwards, a leak in or under the bathroom is ours.
