Overspill estates, Over and Wharton
Slum clearance from the 1930s gave Winsford three estates by the 1950s, and then the Town Development Act expansion of the late 1960s and 70s added large areas of housing of a similar age for families moving out of Liverpool. Those houses have square bathrooms, often with a separate toilet, and most have had one cheap refit in the decades since; they are good candidates for a proper renovation, and for landlords, a refurbishment with panels, a solid tray and a robust fan that stops the maintenance calls. Over, the historic heart on the west bank around St Chad's, is older and different: many of its 19th-century buildings were timber-framed because of the risk of brine subsidence, and the Over St Chads conservation area covers the core. Wharton, east of the river around the station, is the other established district.
Slightly hard water, and the fittings that cope with it
United Utilities' own data for the Winsford zone gives 112 milligrams per litre of calcium carbonate: slightly hard, samples between 72 and 135, and alongside Northwich the hardest water in the Cheshire towns we cover. Scale will show on glass and around taps within a year or two unless the fittings are chosen for it, so in Winsford we specify shower heads with rubber nozzles you can rub clear, easy-clean coated glass, thermostatic valves with ceramic cartridges, and we raise the question of a softener for owners who want one. For rental bathrooms the same choices cut the callouts.
Building control and the Over conservation area
Cheshire West and Chester Council runs building control for Winsford. New drainage, structural work and bathroom electrics are the notifiable parts of a bathroom job; the electrics that need certifying are done by a registered electrician we work with, and you get the certificate, which matters for landlords and for any house that will be sold. The Winsford Over St Chads conservation area is the one place in town where an external vent or pipe position needs a thought before it goes on a front wall.
Where to see bathrooms in Winsford
Wickes at Wharton Retail Park on Weaver Valley Road has a kitchen and bathroom showroom, City Plumbing's Bathroom Showroom at Artis Park on Road One opened in 2022, and Wolseley on Sadler Road is the plumbers' merchant. Choose at any of them and we fit it; for landlords doing several bathrooms we can specify a standard set and keep the price per room steady.

Example scenario: a Swanlow estate house between tenants
A 1970s semi with a tired bathroom and a separate toilet, empty for three weeks between tenancies. We knock the two rooms into one, fit a 1500 by 800 stone-resin tray with a fixed screen, a thermostatic shower with a wipe-clean head for the water here, a close-coupled toilet with a replaceable soft-close seat, a vanity with a drawer, wall panels in the shower, porcelain on the floor and a humidity fan. Five working days, photos to the agent on the last day.
Burst pipes in Winsford out of hours
For an emergency in Winsford at night, a local plumber will be quicker to reach Over or Wharton than we are from Wrexham. Landlords and housing providers can then pass the repair to us: the leak fixed properly and, where the room is beyond patching, a refurbishment between tenants.
